Adult Ignatian Formation

Overview

Adult Ignatian Formation
All are invited to deepen and strengthen their spiritual education

In renewing our Ignatian Spirit, that spirit and tradition of St. Ignatius Loyola, the Founder of the Jesuits, our faculty, staff, students, and members of our Board of Trustees, have had many opportunities and encounters to deepen and strengthen our faith in the God of life and love.

In 2020, we expanded this renewal to include parents, alumni, alumni parents, benefactors, parishioners from local parishes, and other friends of Jesuit High School. We invite you to join us for any of the complimentary programmings – think of them as “adult spiritual continuing education.” All were welcome.

For this 2020-2021 academic year, we are continuing to plan events for our various adult constituencies of our adult faith community. We are doing our best in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic to continue our planned activities in events, in keeping with strict safety precautions approved by the school’s Safe Return Task Force.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Jesuit High School community!

Celebrating the Year of St. Ignatius of Loyola

By Christopher G. Kerr, Ignatian Solidarity Network

Life definitely throws all of us some curveballs, as they say. But this year, we commemorate 500 years since life threw St. Ignatius of Loyola a cannonball.

The Suscipe Prayer
We pray this together as a community every Friday morning.

Throughout their years at Jesuit High School, your sons will be introduced to St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit Order, whose spirituality permeates our mission and identity.  One of the exercises Ignatius encouraged was that of intentional discernment in our lives.  We receive with gratitude the many Gifts from God, and offer them back to the Lord to be used in service to His greater glory. (AMDG=For the greater glory of God!)  Each Friday morning we pray the Suscipe, which begins, “Take, Lord, receive…”

Meeting

September 4

On Friday, September 4, faculty and staff gathered for their first monthly adult faith formation meeting. Every year there is a theme and focus for the gatherings. This year the theme is Ignatian Spirituality for Anti-Racist Educators. Each gathering will explore and pray with some aspect of Ignatian Spirituality in order to provide spiritual resources and focus on the school’s mission to support our ongoing anti-racism work on campus.

Opening Week Faculty and Staff Gathering: A Conversation with Eric Abrams

On August 11, 2020, our adult faith formation meeting began our discernment process of how we will address racism in our own school community and beyond. This year our gatherings will provide Ignatian spirituality resources for our mission and work as anti-racist educators. At this gathering formally began our Ignatian discernment about how to go about this by engaging in deep listening of our students. We will listen to, and reflect on, the feedback we received this summer, primarily from our students of color, regarding their experience of racial justice/injustice on campus.
